More accessibility - today and in the future
Around 13 million people live in Germany and face new challenges every day. On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we want to draw attention to the needs of people with physical or mental disabilities. The topic is already firmly anchored on our campus in structural terms and, with the development of our sustainability strategy, has also become more of a focus in the social sphere. In the area of people, we want to give everyone, regardless of their abilities and limitations, the opportunity to have individual access to the education system. This is why a campus that is accessible and designed to be liveable is at the heart of everything we do.
We are already actively working on this today. Due to the large number of different limitations, we want to establish targeted solutions on campus and use direct communication with those affected to achieve this. For example, we have spoken to people with hearing impairments and will install light signal systems that make it easier to recognize a fire alarm, we are working on small offices so that they can withdraw and avoid distractions and we offer our guests in the auditorium the opportunity to connect their hearing aids to the translation system and thus follow what is happening on stage.
We are also incorporating this experience into our new building project Bildungscampus West.
We also face barriers in the digital sphere, which is why we are already working on optimizing our website, for example by integrating accessible PDFs for our sustainability strategy. However, we have not yet reached our goal, which is why further adjustments in the area of perception and usability are already on the agenda for 2025.
