More than flowers: International Women's Day and the reality of today

March 8 is more than just a day to give flowers. It is a day to remember the struggles of past generations and a call to action in the present. Because even today, women are still disadvantaged in many areas.

The roots of International Women's Day go back to a time when women often had few rights and had to work under unfair conditions. The first demonstrations for women's rights showed the need for a common voice. Today, over a century later, International Women's Day has become a global event. However, despite the progress that has been made, many inequalities are still omnipresent.

Especially in the world of work, women are still disadvantaged. The gender pay gap, i.e. the difference between the average income of men and women, is a global phenomenon. Women around the world earn significantly less than men, even if they do the same work. This inequality has an impact on women's entire life planning and retirement provision.

International Women's Day is an opportunity to draw attention to equal rights and gender justice. In March 2025, we therefore organized an exhibition in our campus library (LIV).

In the exhibition there was the opportunity to take part in an interactive quiz. You can find the answer below!
