News on construction work

March 4-7: Construction of a Temporary Road with New Routing
To facilitate work on Construction Site B, the existing construction road from the Edison/Fügerstraße intersection towards the Media Markt parking lot will be rerouted. Preparatory work includes clearing, staking, and securing the areas for the new temporary road. This will be followed by demolition and asphalt work to create the new roadway. During this period, there will be temporary parking and road closures. We strive to keep noise disturbances and inconveniences to a minimum. Thank you for your understanding.
From March 11: Start of Surface Demolition and Soil Remediation on the West Campus
Starting in March 2025, soil remediation measures will be carried out on the site of the planned West Campus. The site was previously used as a tannery and later as a storage area for oil and fuels. Initial test excavations have not revealed any evidence of contamination. To ensure the safety of all involved, the area of soil with potential contamination will be preemptively removed. The work will be carried out in accordance with regulations, with protective clothing and within a tented area.
The West Campus team is working closely with experts to ensure that the remediation work is conducted professionally. This measure ensures that the site is uncontaminated before construction begins, allowing the campus to be used long-term. The removal of potential contaminants is an important step in preparing the site for the planned West Campus construction.

What is being built on the site?

An extension of the Bildungscampus is being created here with the "Bildungscampus West". In the knowledge quarter of tomorrow, buildings and areas for university facilities, office and commercial use, student housing and green spaces for sports and leisure activities are being created. Particular attention is being paid to integrating the surrounding area, such as the banks of the Neckar. Opening up to the city was also an important aspect in order to make commercial and catering facilities accessible to everyone. In the future, the Bildungscampus is to be more closely connected with the public and contribute to interaction between campus life and the urban space.

How long will it take to build on the site?

The future Bildungscampus West will be realized in four construction phases. Construction phase 0 is already being completed. Construction phase 1 will begin in March 2025 and is expected to be completed in early 2028. Find out more about the construction sites here.

The construction site is in operation from Monday to Friday. As a rule, no construction work takes place at weekends.
